Individual classes are not exclusively face to face classes (one student with one teacher), but foremost these are classes facilitating the individual intake of a language.
Individualization of teaching means adaptation of teaching content, methods to a student’s individual abilities, skills and interests(Encyclopedia PWN).
Individualization allows to maximize course effectiveness, it also fulfills motivating and activating roles.
INCORRECTLY UNDERSTOOD INDIVIDUALIZATION AND ITS CONSEQUENCES:
• A learner, not being able to diagnose what should be on a curriculum, singlehandedly decided what he/she will
Consequence: the learner lacks a well defined goal, has no means of verifying his/her progress towards the goal and consequently observes no linguistic development
• A learner works exclusively with materials correlated with his/her personal interests, at the same time not being aware what kind of knowledge is expected on his/her level of advancement and of what stimulates his/her further language development
Consequence: the learner frequently chooses materials incompatible with his/her language level of advancement (e.g. reading specialist texts)
• A learner, not knowing what variety of teaching methods is available, determines how He/she wishes to be taught
Consequence: the learning process is less effective and learners cannot put their skills into practice
• A learner does not agree on Any timetable of meetings, instead constantly moderates the frequency of meetings
Consequence: classes Take place so irregurarly that the whole learning process is disturbed, additionally the learner’s company pays for cancelled classes
